How I Started

“Marc, I can sell, and I can build but the rest of it is killing me.”

I had just finished telling a friend that I had decided to end my collegiate teaching career and I asked how his business with his sons was going and he made the statement above. He then shared additional details of his frustrations and concerns, and his angst was palpable. I told him I would be done teaching in a few months, and I would come help him. This big former Marine cried and told me how much that would mean to him.

I had considered consulting before, (despite not liking the word and connotation – I always imagine Bob and Bob from the movie “Office Space”) but had the opportunity to teach full-time and thought I could manage it on my summers off. The learning curve into full-time teaching did not allow me the margin to have a side hustle, but now I find myself in a place where I do have the availability to share my professional experience and wisdom.

I care deeply about family-owned businesses because they bring so many benefits to our communities – Meeting market needs, providing opportunities for employment, offering places to be innovative, and encouraging instruction on hard work, service, sacrifice, and investment.

These benefits don’t exist without a strong and profitable business; and in today’s ever-changing economy that can be a challenge. What got you to where you are today may not be adequate for “tomorrow” and most likely is not sufficient 3-5 years out or less.

Why Work With Me?

This is the primary approach I take with those that enlist my help. Take advantage of talking to me for two hours free to uncover the root of what you need assistance with. I don’t “sell” my knowledge, I share and let you decide. (Daniel Pink’s book “To Sell is Human” suggests that in this day and age “We’re all in sales now” Ch 1).
